Equal Opportunity Cell (EOC), established in Subhas Chandra Bose Centenary College in 2010 under the merged scheme( memo no- FMSWK-034/09-10) to aid and advise the students belonging to marginalized sections including Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), Other Backward Communities (OBCs), minority communities, disabled students etc. The EOC is dedicated towards ensuring that students from different communal, regional and religious spectrums are able to access our resources and infrastructures with safety and dignity irrespective of their caste, creed and physical obstacles.

Functions

To ensure equity and equal opportunity to the students in the college.
To enhance the diversity among the students and eliminate the perception of discrimination.
To make efforts to empower the person with disabilities
To help individuals or a group of students belonging to the disadvantaged section of society.
To look into the student’s grievances and ensure equality to the disadvantaged group on college .through proper implementation of policies, skills and programs.
Give counselling session to the students to build up their confidence.
Give them the proper career option which can help them to establish in life.
To give financial support to the disabled students.

Future plans:

1. Construction of a ramp at the college entrance for differently able student.
2. Provision of elevator for various levels access in the building.
3. Awarding scholarship to meritorious and deserving candidates from college funds.
4. Arrange social awareness campaign against any kind of discrimination.
5. Counselling session in the interest of the students.
6. Construction of toilets for physically challenged candidates.

Ragging constitutes one or more of any of the following acts:

a) Any conduct by any student or students whether by words spoken or written or by an act which has the effect of teasing, treating, or handling with rudeness a fresher or any other student.
b) Indulging in rowdy or in disciplined activities by any student or students which causes or is likely to cause annoyance, hardship, physical or psychological harm or to raise fear or apprehension thereof in any fresher or any other student.
c) Asking any student to do any act which such student will not in the ordinary course do and which has the effect of causing or generating a sense of shame, or torment or embarrassment so as to adversely affect the physique or psyche of such fresher or any other student.
d) Any act by a senior student that prevents, disrupts, or disturbs the regular academic activity of any other student or a fresher.
e) Exploiting the services of a fresher or any other student for completing the academic tasks assigned to an individual or a group of students.
f) Any act of financial extortion or forceful expenditure burden put on a fresher or any other student by students.
g) Any act of physical abuse including all variants of it: sexual abuse, homosexual assaults, stripping, forcing obscene and lewd acts, gestures, causing bodily harm or any other danger to health or person.
h) Any act or abuse by spoken words, emails, post, public insults which would also include deriving perverted pleasure, vicarious or sadistic thrill from actively or passively participating in the discomfiture to fresher or any other student.
i) Any act that affects the mental health and self-confidence of a fresher or any other student with or without an intent to derive a sadistic pleasure or showing off power, authority, or superiority by a student over any fresher.
j) Any act of physical or mental abuse (including bullying and exclusion) targeted at another student (fresher or otherwise) on the ground of color, race, religion, caste, ethnicity, gender (including transgender), sexual orientation, appearance, nationality, regional origins, linguistic identity, place of birth, place of residence or economic background.

Where Can you get Help?

1. I do not want you to feel that you are alone and helpless. We are all with you.
2. Your Parents are there to help. Please do not feel that you will burden your parents. Talk to them freely and openly. If you are being ragged – it is not your fault. They understand that.
3. We, at the Ragging Prevention Program are ready to help. You can also send us an Email on helpline.antiragging.scbc@gmail.com
4. Your College Administration is there to help – Please do not hesitate to ask for help. They will help you. The local police and local administration are also there to help.
5. Anybody can register a complaint of Ragging. It does not have to be only the victim. If you notice an incidence of Ragging you must inform to us. It is your duty to do so.
6. You can also register a complaint of Ragging - Anonymously. You must however avoid this option because without knowing details it becomes difficult for us to take any action. We can assure you of confidentiality.

Eligibility-

Applicant must be a permanent resident of the State of West Bengal
Applicant studying in any institutions of the WB State after passing out the WB State Board /Council of Higher Secondary Education [for U.G. level] or a State aided University in WB [for P.G. level].
Applicant must get 60% in aggregate in H.S. Examination [for U.G. level] or 55% Marks in the Honours Subject [for P.G. level]
Applicant must not enjoy any other governmental (central/state) scholarship or stipend for the same course or stage of study during the last year.
Applicant's annual family income must not exceed Rs. 60,000/-.

6. Swami Vivekananda Merit cum Means Scholarship by Govt. of WB:

Financial assistance provided by the West Bengal Higher Education Department (WBHED), Govt. of West Bengal to the poor but meritorious students of the State pursuing higher studies.

Eligibility-

Annual family income not more than Rs. 2,50,000/-
75% marks in aggregate in the H.S. Exam for UG-level scholarships (53% marks in the Honours subject in UG for PG-level scholarships)
Kanyashree recipients with valid sanctioned K2 ID pursuing Post Graduate courses in Science, Arts and Commerce stream from Universities of this State in regular mode (not distance) must obtain at graduation level 45% marks in aggregate from Institutions of this State in the year 2019 are eligible to apply. There is no need to submit income certificate and income affidavit in respect of Kanyashree (K3) applicant.

Lalbagh Subhas Chandra Bose Centenary College has a glorious past related outreach activities. National Service Scheme (NSS) unit of our college plays a vital role in terms of this matter. In the year 2016 NSS unit started its outreach activity by adopting a local village name ‘Dighipara’. Various schemes like literacy survey, child education, different socio – economical as well as awareness programme also conducted by NSS unit. Normally, every Saturday of each weak NSS members were visited Dighipara for maintaining well communication with local inhabitants. Besides this numerous rallies in different memorable days like 21st February (International Mother Language Day), 15th August (Independence Day). Were conducted by our collage to create a significant footprint among the local people. Apart from these , blood donation camp also organized by our college in a regular basis.
