Introduction
Bengal has always been a major center of art, culture and literature in India. The soil of Bengal has given intellectuals like RabindraNath Tagore, Raja Ram Mohan Roy, KaziNazrul Islam, Bankim Chandra and Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar to the world of literature. The term 'Bengali literature' includes all the literary work in Bengali language, be it from Bangladesh or West Bengal. Bengali literature is one of the oldest available literatures in the world, as its history can be traced to centuries ago. Like Bengali music, Bengali literature is also very rich and relevant.
Bengali as a subject came into being right at the inception of Subhas Chandra Bose Sentenary College, Lalbagh in 1998.Bengali (Honours & General Course) as a subject was taught from the very beginning of this Institution. Studies in Bengali Language and Literature in consonance with the syllabi of the University of Kalyani are imparted in three analogous sub-streams --Bengali Honours, Elective Bengali and Compulsory Bengali. □ To organize a national seminar on a relevant topic.
□ To start one year translation course for the development of students efficiency.
□ New Upgraded Bengali language software to be installed in the language laboratory for the benefit of the students.
