About the Department

Subhas Chandra Bose was established on 12th August in 1998 with nine subjects including Urdu.The department of Urdu was started with two guest teachers.The classes were held in the premises of Lalbagh Singhi High School, Murshidabad. Earlier the Department was started with only General and Mil courses.In 2005,Honours course has been started since then Department Regular Independent status with two teachers.One Full Time and one part time teachers.In 2009,one part time teacher was appointed .In 2014 one guest teacher was appointed and in 2015 , one more guest teacher was appointed.At present ,there are two faculty members on full –time basis and three are part-time teacher.Our department organizes National and State level Seminar,Classroom debates,quiz,recitation,workshop and brings out wall magazine.

The Department has also an independent distance course, MANUU Study Centre and also has the Language Course through NCPUL. Since beginning, we have been making efforts to improve the overall standard of our students, we instill value and motivate our students to make efforts in doing their best, making improvement each year to achieve greater heights.

Analysis of the Department:

Strength :

□  The greatest strength of the department has been teacher-students intimate relationship that has kept the department alive.
□  For the interest of students,teachers take extra and special classes.
□  The teachers of the department are academically motivated to bring out the best in their students, to which effect,they constantly keep themselves updated in their respective areas of specialization.

Weakness:

□  Inspite of Muslim population, there is lack of urdu students in our Department.
□  The Department suffers from non-availability of good reference books for its students.
□  As our students come from the economically under-privileged sections of society, Students face financial crisis for pursuing their studies.

Opportunity

□  The use of social media platforms for communication with students and promotion of learning opportunities is also visualized as an opportunity.
□  The students of the department constitute an important bank of creative talent for various literary and cultural activities both within and out side the college.

Future Plans:

□  To provide Smart class room facility to all students.
□  To prepare passed out students for P.G course and jobs.
□  Workshop on creative writing and critical teaching.
□  Organizing a National Seminar.
□  To organize excursions at regular intervals.
